Meet the coaches:

Katrina Abram

I wear my heart on my sleeve and if we’re friends I will love you to death and tell you I love you to make it really awkward! I’m also a little shy and fond of listening so if you see me in a crowd I might seem quiet at first. If you are not shy, please say hi! Especially if you are weird.

I’m an honest coach who tries to blend training theory with a big supportive hug. Sometimes we need a push as athletes and sometimes we need to know there’s someone in our corner rooting for us, aware of the long game. I am a Mom to Madeleine (she’s 3), a dog Mom to Ellie (she’s 8), and a cat Mom to Mochi (he’s almost 2). My partner is Paul and he’s my rock. If you work with Jenny and I, I will talk about my family because I think it’s important to get to know one another to build trust. I’m going through this life thing too.

I am a competitive runner myself and have made my way on quite a few podiums. Here are a few recent highlights if you want to see:

  • Deception Pass 25km, 2023 – 3rd place woman
  • Wandering Moose 42km, 2022 – 3rd place woman
  • Grey Rock Trail Runs 25km, 2019 – 1st place woman, 3rd overall
  • Run for Water 25km Trail, 2018 – 1st place woman, Course Record
  • Whistler Alpine Meadows 25km, 2018 – 2nd place woman
  • Orca’s Island 50 mile, 2018 – 4th place woman
  • Buckin’ Hell 50km Relay, 2017 – 1st place women’s team (with Jenny!)

Coaching experience

Together with Jenny, we work with athletes of all abilities. Most of our athletes are trail runners but we also have guided our athletes in their road 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km dreams as well. I started as a road runner so when I see some road dreams written out, I must admit, I get a bit giddy. We have helped some runners get into trail running who have never run a race before, we’ve helped athletes race and finish their first 50 km, we’ve built back new parents after childbirth, we’ve guided the return to run process after injury, we’ve helped women in perimenopause and menopause reach their goals and of course, we’ve helped over 50 athletes crush their 50 km, 50 mi, 100 km, 100 mi, and Backyard Ultra dreams.

I have coached athletes to a finish in the following races of note:

Qualifications and education

Get to know me more!

I have lived and trained in a few neat places around the world. I’ve lived in Switzerland, Italy, and Canada (Ottawa, Montreal, Chilliwack). Living in Switzerland in 2011 is when I started trail running and having that playground to train on is something I will always be grateful for. When I moved to British Columbia in 2016 I started ultrarunning and haven’t looked back.

I feel very grateful to get to do this and take it very seriously. I think what makes Jenny and I different from other coaches is that we have each other to stay accountable and we are not afraid to be challenged or wrong or say no. We are committed to learning as much as we can about the sport and meet each week to share what we’ve learned either on our own or through our athletes and what I love about this is that often I really do learn something new or gain insight into a different way of thinking.

I am a scientist (a soil microbiologist – weird/random, I know) and part of my nature is to be open to learning new things so I dedicate my time to continued education and learning. If you work with us we’ll provide you with links and resources to topics relevant to your training, we’ll send you a write up on a topic we’ve been researching monthly, we’ll connect you to other professionals (clinical counselor, sport dietitian, Physiotherapist, etc.) if you need them, and we’ll be there for you every single day. If you want to email, email. If you want to call, let’s set up a call. If you want to feel like part of a team, we host a training camp once a year, show up at races our athletes are racing, and host team meet ups. I guess what I want to leave you with is that if you join our team, Jenny and I will support you in whatever phase of life you’re in now to get you where you want to go. Now, if you would, please imagine me, you and Jenny, putting on our gold glitter sunglasses with all our dogs in sidecars riding off into the sunset together. It’s going to be great.
